2025 General Assembly: A Journey BEYOND

The 2025 General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) officially began in Memphis with a vibrant celebration of unity. The opening session featured a spirited Regional Roll Call representing all 31 regions across the U.S. and Canada, setting the tone for the journey BEYOND. Welcoming words from Rev. Kevin McNeil and Mr. Harold Collins grounded the Assembly in faith and purpose.

Evening worship on Day 1 was marked by moving music, inspired preaching, and reflection on Ephesians 3:20–21. Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King challenged us to let the Spirit’s power work within us, calling the Church into bold imagination and action.

The following days brought opportunities for connection, service, and growth. Attendees worshipped with local Memphis congregations and participated in hands-on mission projects supporting vulnerable communities and children’s health through partnerships like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Worship continued to be a central thread each evening. A stirring Samulnori Korean Drum performance opened one night’s service, symbolizing the growing cultural diversity of our Church. Messages from Rev. Brian Kirk, Rev. April Lewton, and Rev. Dr. Stephen Cady reminded us of covenant, inclusion, and listening with intention. Offerings for mission, reconciliation, and compassion reaffirmed our shared purpose and generosity.

Workshops and keynote addresses from powerful voices such as Rev. Dr. Lee Butler, Rev. Dr. Matthew Skinner, Rev. Leah Gunning Francis, and Rev. Dr. Esther Robles inspired deep theological reflection and practical vision for ministry in today’s world. Business sessions highlighted the faithful work of our General Ministries, elected new leadership, and responded to urgent issues with grace and action.

A historic closing worship featured a dialogue with all four living General Ministers and Presidents, offering a hopeful and united vision for the future of the Church in a digital age. The Week of Compassion Offering reminded us of our ongoing commitment to serve a hurting world.

NAPAD: A Vital Presence in the Assembly

NAPAD (North American Pacific/Asian Disciples) played a vital and enriching role throughout the General Assembly. Executive Pastor Chung Seong Kim cast a compelling vision through his report and presence, while the NAPAD booth, After Session gathering, and workshop created meaningful spaces for connection and dialogue. NAPAD members also contributed to worship in powerful and diverse ways, helping shape services that were deeply spiritual and culturally rich.

One especially significant moment for the NAPAD community was the installation of Cindy Kim-Hengst from Chicago as Moderator of the General Assembly—an inspiring milestone that reflects the growing leadership and influence of NAPAD within the wider Church.

As we now return to our home communities, may we carry this experience of BEYOND—its grace, energy, and hope—into our daily ministries. Until we meet again, may the Spirit continue to lead us deeper into connection, compassion, and transformation.
